I made my coach to London and after a foggy jounrey down the motorway I headed off into the sunshine
in my dress and glittery baseball shoes. I felt a bit like lily Allen with trainers and a dress.
It didn’t feel right.
I went in search of humming bird bakery
cupcakes and a museum. I was going to go to the British museum but that seemed
like effort so I stayed in south ken and went to the national history museum. I
haven’t been there in years. I spent hours just wandering around. I went to see
the dinosaur, the whale, and the gem stones collection, the vault of real gems
(SOOOO VERY COOL!), the giant sequoia tree trunk.
Then headed back to Kings
Cross to O’Neil’s for an ultimate burger. STUFFED. 2 massive burgers in the
bun, Irish beef, Irish cheese, onion rings and chips. It really was a taste of
home but I literally couldn’t move. Razorlight’s America was on the sound
system. I love that song.
I waddled to the underground in search of brick lane.
I found the tube ok but I was wandering up and down brick lane for a good 10
minutes trying to find the venue.
The Vibe bar looked pretty cool. Located inside the old Truman
Brewery, it had a nice courtyard and it had a nice feel inside. I sat
down with a vodka and coke and read the Evening Standard. I felt a bit like a
Londoner for a minute. At £5.40 for a single vodka and coke there was
definitely only gonna be one drink. I went upstairs to pavilion about 8pm and
no one was around. Glock came out, I was being my usual awkward self
(ARGHHHHH!) and I was red faced from the drink (sometimes I really bloody hate
my mother’s genetics that makes my face burn when I’ve had a drink) and said he
wasn’t sure if the gig was gonna happen as the PA system wasn’t working.
Thankfully they got it fixed and I followed Glock back in and we had a quick
chat. Glock was poorly bless him and was drinking his honey and lemon. Some
angry Goth chick was doing her sound check. She was so angry, shouting into the
mic in the name of music. Each to their own.
The vibe bar might have been cool but the same can’t be said
for The Pavilon upstairs. It wasn’t great. And the toilets had no door between
the main room in the venue and the cubicle doors so right in a quiet moment of
a song you can hear the sodding hand dryers! Whoever newly redesigned this
venue needs shooting.
Glock done his sound check, He sound checked parts of a new
song ‘Blind Man In The Dark’ and I instantly fell in love with it. I don’t know
how the hell Glock didn’t kill that RUDE sound guy though.
I was just excited to be there even if at times I did feel
out of place. Soon it was time for Sharks & Bears debut show in London.
Such an honour to be there and so much fun. We all stood along in a line and
watched Glock play. I JUST ADORE that man and his music.
Set list:
1. New Song - Unknown
Title
2. New Song - Blind
Man In The Dark
3. New Song - The Bed
That I Have Made
4. Worth Something More
5. Blue
6. OK, Who Cares, Oh Well, Whatever
1. New Song - Unknown Title
This song was adorable. It made me smile. My first
conclusion was that it was a song for Glock Jr, with its lyrics about a little
star. It had the “if I’m doomed to feel
this way forever” mixed in as a sort of intro. It was lovely and sweet.
“But to us you are a star”
“A good day will not
to be governed by the weather”
“Don’t be afraid to
dream what doesn’t break you makes you strong”
“Twinkle little star”.
Awww.
2. New Song - Blind Man In The Dark
Glock was having a laugh and made a comment about this next
song. I can’t remember what he said, all I remember is him playing the first 6
notes of CĂ©line Dion’s ‘It's All Coming Back to Me Now’ and I DIED laughing. Then
he launched into this song.
OMG I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. Like seriously. It actually
choked me. I swallowed a lump in my throat. It just sounds so amazing. Piano driven.
I just ADORE IT.
“She said we should
keep in touch and I haven’t seen her since”
“I tried to be her
bear, what she wanted was a shark, then she left me like a blind man in the
dark”
RELATE. Reminds me of the ex, so glad I’m FINALLY over that
asshole.
Sometimes heartache makes for the best songs tho ;).
Glock had just finished the song and was making a comment
that this was his debut London show, right as some pisshead woman walked into
the bar. She went running up to the front of the stage, arms outstretched and
yelled at Glock ‘welcome to London’. If it wasn’t annoying it would have been
funny.
3. New Song - The Bed That I Have Made
I love this song too. I fell in love with it at Stamford at
The Candle Thieves comeback gig. This is the one Glock joked in Stamford was
about the innocence of prostitution. I think I need to listen to this one a few
more times before I figure it out what it’s all about lol.
“She said she’s
changing, she’s changing, she’s changing soon”
That pisshead woman decided she didn’t like what she heard
and half way through the song decided to shout ‘love ya’ before she ran out the
room. SO annoying.
4. Worth Something
More
This was always joint favourite off ‘OK, Who Cares, Oh Well,
Whatever’ with ‘Wrong/Sorry’. I love this song. The opening line always makes
me smile. “It was a day like any other but I woke up on the lawn”. I could have
squealed when Glock starting singing this song.
And it has one of my favourite lyrics EVER:
“I was hungry when I
met you and I’m still hungry now ... It’s funny how the sweet don’t taste the
same without the sour”.
GENIUS LYRIC.
Definitely another relate moment.
“Maybe you’re a dropout and you should have been the star,
maybe you have fallen just a little bit too far…”
We are all worth something more. Just sometimes we forget
that fact. I love this song.
The bar was starting to get a bit rowdy, I appreciate that a
relatively unknown and unsigned act isn’t going to gain the silence of the room
but if all you want to do is get drunk and shout over music and talk you your
friends go to a bloody club and leave us be. A few people decided to stand right
beside me and shout over Glock to each other. I shot them a look. They moved.
You could see I was listening. I was standing there singing along, dancing
along, enjoying it. LEAVE ME TO ENJOY IT. Rawr.
5. Blue
This one was fun live. It made me smile.
Glock took the mic off the stand, wandered around the stage
and turned his blue rope lights on. Nice touch ;).
Loving the blue balloons as well ;)
6. OK, Who Cares, Oh
Well, Whatever
This song was so much fun. I was just getting started; I
didn’t want it to be the last song. Such a fun upbeat track to go out on
though.
Glock singing along, playing glockenspiel, keys, you name
it..
“Days like these I
need something more, but happiness is a revolving door”.
Glock picked up his blue light up flashing glasses (Think
Darren Hayes doing pop!ular on his last tour) and flicked the on switch. I think
the glasses were a bit lost on that room though LOL.
“If I’m doomed to feel
this way forever, ok, who cares, oh well, whatever”.
Afterwards.
I nabbed a blue balloon of Glock, and we all headed out onto
brick lane. I would have loved to have stayed for another drink and chat to
Glock some more but I had to catch my train. Glock is the sweetest, always
asking to make sure I can get home from the gigs safely.
It’s a good job I did dash, the tube was shut when I got
there so I had to go further east to change and go back west. Stupid planned
closures. I just assumed if the tube ran one way it ran back again. NO.
I made it back to St Pancras and onto my train. Never been
so glad to see a plug socket for my iPhone.
I was meant to be sleeping on the
train as I had a 7 hour shift to do the next day but I was BUZZING. You know
it’s a late one when you set your alarm to go off in 5 hours’ time and you’re
still 45 minutes away from your bed. I'm gonna die tomorrow but it was SO
WORTH IT. I knew the high of the gig could tide me over until I could crawl
back into bed.
Thank you so much for your kindness Glock. I appreciate it
so much. I loved tonight.
I’m well and truly in love with the Sharks and Bears. So
damn excited for that new EP.
SOON?! Please?!
