I would have to say that 'Night' by Elli Wiesel is one of my favorites. His story about what he went through and witnessed in the concentration camps during WW2 is interesting and depressing.
'The wave' is another one. By Todd Strasser. A fictional novel about a teacher trying to get his students to understand the power Hitler had. He does an experiment with the students which becomes out of control.
